A soft calming retreat with an amazing view during spaceflight
As part of our ongoing development with Space Perspective on the full design and experience of Spaceship Neptune is the one-of-a-kind lavatory, Space Spa. Tucked into one side of the capsule interior, the Space Spa serves as a solo oasis during spaceflight. Designed as the name implies, it is a soft calming retreat with an amazing view.
As an environment it is cocooning and comforting, with no sharp edges it is an extremely soft and welcoming space. But it also benefits cleanliness, allowing super easy wipe down of all surfaces. The space has been designed as a retreat, contrasting the rest of the capsule to provide a refreshing and revitalising experience. The colour palette uses soft yellows that bring a rejuvenating and optimistic spirit, which play nicely with the contrasting colours that can be seen through the windows.
We aimed to create an environment that was more akin to a spa vs. a typical flight experience. Instead of fully integrated panels, each item is singular furniture that would typically be seen in a domestic environment. We’re using light washes to create ambience and allow for customisation of the environment as well as discourage reflections in the windows.
