Modular public seating that adapts as passenger flow changes

Flip is a flexible public seating concept that adapts to changing environments and human needs. Public spaces aren’t optimised for the changes in passenger flow, flip provides additional flexibility and functionality by allowing the seat to un-latch and rotate out of the way to bring space for passengers’ belongings. A modular approach to public spaces, Flip is a set of parts that can be added and changed for futureproofing and brand application.

Flip works by unlatching the rotating mechanism that runs down the row of seats, allowing for each seat to be rotated back individually for a customised set. The seat is carefully designed for the rotation angle and ergonomics.

Flip was a self-initiated studio project after witnessing public spaces during the global pandemic. In many airports, train stations and waiting rooms; every other seat was taped over to separate people by 1 meter. Optimising this unused space left by the uninhabited seat, Flip has space for luggage and a side table.

A modular system that adapts and optimises to the environment and the changes in passenger flow

A flexible seat system, Flip can be fully customised for each environment’s needs, with changes in seat count, adding multiple dividers, lighting and charging. This allows for customised CMF for each part, with swappable parts for these high-use pieces to ensure longevity.
