Luxurious passenger comfort engineered for the demands of spaceflight
The interior of Spaceship Neptune is comprised of many individual design tasks. The seat is one of the key interfaces with the passenger, providing luxurious comfort while at the same time, meeting all of the safety and technical requirements that space brings. This seat represents the initial intent for the Spaceship Neptune interior in 2022 as part of the public release of the capsule, we are continuing to develop the seat and interior in preparation for commercial flight. We have a strong collaborative process with the engineers and in-house doctor at Space Perspective working with them to meet all of the requirements for space travel.
The design consists of a floating pillowed backrest which makes the seat lightweight and gives a soft cosy aesthetic. The seat cushions have been designed using a pad system to allow for flexibility in cushion sizes to provide for a multitude of ergonomics, this modular system enhances safety while at the same time improving the customer experience.
For safety requirements, the seat has a hugging profile to the passenger designed around the shoulders, legs and head. The headrest has an arc shape to support head movement during launch and landing. Taking cues from domestic lounge chairs, the seat structure is visible on the outside, which allows for greater repairability and adjustability, with the benefit of increased weight reduction. The soft plush cushions can adjust on the frame tailored to the passenger.
